Editorial Review: Ideal for a household with a large cat or more than one cat, this big, self-cleaning litter box eliminates most odors while keeping the litter pleasingly fresh for tabby. It's ingenious in design: a cat entering the box triggers a sensor; the sensor sets a timer that counts off 10 minutes; then a rake runs through the litter, scooping out clumps and depositing them in a plastic container at the box's end; the container is automatically sealed until the next cat visit, when the raking cycle opens the container for another deposit. (Twelve reusable, disposable containers are included, each 13 inches long, 4 inches wide, and 3-1/2 inches deep.) The litter box can be plugged into a wall socket (AC adapter included) or operated on eight D-cell batteries (not included). It comes with a durable carpeted ramp that leads a cat into the box and cleans its paws on the way out. For safety, the rake stops and reverses at the slightest touch if an object gets in the way. If a cat re-ente...

LitterMaid Litter Box gets 4 paws up!!, 2008-07-18
I just received delivery yesterday of my Littermaid LM900 litter box. This is my second Littermaid, the previous one having been purchased over 10 years ago. It was still working fine, but my cat preferred to use the dog door and go outside, so the litter box was lost in the abyss of the "storage shed". Anyway, I have a new kitty, so I decided to purchase another Littermaid. I must admit, I almost didn't do it, after reading the online reviews. I finally decided to go with the "basic" model LM900. It arrived ready for set up and was comparable in construction to the one I had owned previously, probably even improved. My kitty took to it right away and even sits and waits to see the scooper in action. I highly recommend the white Kitty Cabana--it covers the box, gives kitty some privacy, and makes the entire structure look like a Shiek's tent. My older "doggie door" cat is now even eyeing the Littermaid. I think it works great, my kitty loves it, and it is much less noxious than any other box I've ever used. (I was using the "roll over on its side" and collect the waste in a drawer model). Great product for the price!

Very good product, 2008-07-14
I bought this litter box a few months ago and I am very impressed with it.
Changing the kitty box is no longer a huge chore. I have two cats and need to change the receptacle every 2 or 3 days. My only complaint is that it does leave smaller clumps in the box, but it's not that big of a deal. The instructions recommend using a premium clumping litter, but don't use one that clumps too hard. I had to have my first one replaced because the litter would clump too hard for the rake to get through it and it burned up the motor. I recommend using Tidy Cat clumping litter.

Great!, 2008-07-14
I love this thing! I have 2 fat cats and a kitten and it's big enough for everybody. The little ramp is kind of a joke. The cats use it to get into the litter box but then they just jump over the sides to get out. i suggest getting a large mat to go around it. The last littermaid i had was the smaller one (LM500) and the little motor burned out on it pretty quickly (within a year) so i'm just hoping the motor on this one lasts longer... Also, this litter box doesn't stall out like the smaller one did if it hits something big (like a cat toy). it just pushes through! So far, i don't have any problems!

Littermaid 900, 2008-07-14
I have TOO MANY cats and over the past 4 years, I have used all the sizes of littermaid and this is the best one. It's the largest and the quietest. I still clean out the litter trays twice a day , but unless you have a cat with a stomach or intestinal problem that causes you to have to do extra cleaning, this is efficient and keeps the litter cleaned out very well.

Get's the job done, 2008-07-13
It isn't perfect but not much is. It works well I've found you want 1 for every 2 or 3 cats. It's best when you put litter in it you'll see 2 lines min and max I fill mine to min i find when i fill it to max it jams constantly. if you have 5 cats and only 1 littermaid it can't keep up and gets kinda messy. as long as you keep the litter to the min line and keep container emptied which i reuse and switch every 2 to 3 months you'll probably be happy with it.
